German roach

This little roach is fast and sneaky and can travel in cardboard boxes extremely well. In fact that is how most infestations start, and spread. The reproduction rate is of a German roach is off the charts and can exceed 5,000 new roaches in a year.

This is one of many reasons they can survive conventional treatments. Cannibalism is another neat trait these little roaches posses as they will consume there dead and young to survive lean times. German roaches are even known to consume there own feces.

This most common roach in the world is easily identified by there two dark stripes on there shield which is along there upper torso near the head. Light brown and about a half inch long they can blend in very well with there surroundings and 50 roaches can survive for a month on just a smear of grease.

Warm moist conditions are the favorite place for these roaches and they usually only travel around 12 feet from where they hide to eat and drink.

Many times they will make a home out of a microwave or clock radio or other electrical equipment because of the warmth that such items can provide.

The German roach is highly sensitive and can detect chemical treatments and have been known to avoid treated areas. This is why an experienced professional is a must when you confront the German roach.

Treating methods can vary and many times different techniques are used simultaneously to achieve the desired results.

Fogging, baiting, dusting, and conventional treatments are often used to eradicate these little demons.

What are the Different Cockroach Types

I used to scream and shout when I see cockroaches. This oval-shaped, brownish creature is somewhat disgusting but as I grew older, I become less afraid of them.  These little critters are problems all over the world and are popular pests in Albuquerque, New Mexico too.

As annoying as a cockroach may be, it is quite a fascinating creature. Cockroaches can live almost a month without food and two weeks without water. They can also hold their breath for up to 40 minutes (that explains why my technique of using water to drown them doesn’t work) and the most shocking revelation is that cockroaches can live to one week headless.

It’s no wonder there are so many of them roaches around because they never seem to be able to die. From these facts, I deduce that the best way to exterminate those roaches is to just step on them or squash them with a roll of papers.
There are huge numbers of cockroach types.

There are various types of cockroaches in the world and the American cockroach the most popular around the world. Well, naturally since the American cockroach is the renowned household pests.

There’s nothing really American about it actually. But this type of cockroach is the largest found in houses. The females can hatch up to 150 offspring per year and baby cockroaches don’t get their wings until they become adults.

American cockroach

americancockroach thumb photo American cockroaches live in warm, dark, wet places, because they need to be near water. Their hanging out spots include sewers and basements, around pipes and drains and perhaps, also my kitchen.

These roaches carry bacteria and germs as they tend to crawl around dirty areas. So if you want to avoid the visits from these ‘Americans’, try to keep your cooking, eating and food storage area clean and dry. That helped me eradicate my problem so you can try.  The American cockroaches have wings and can fly too but I seldom see them fly. But usually I just name the flying ones ‘flying cockroaches’.

Australian cockroaches

I’ve also encountered Australian cockroaches, though not at home. The Australian cockroaches freak me out the most because they are the winged species, and that means they have the flying ability. Anyway, Australian cockroaches are often mistaken for an American cockroach but they are slightly smaller. They originate from Asia and love the warmer climates. They can travel quickly and fit into small cracks and under doors, despite their fairly large size.

German cockroach

germancockroach thumb photo There are also German cockroaches which I’ve yet seen since they are more common in the U.S. They are nocturnal and they multiply very fast, apparently faster than rabbits. Because of these factors, their breeding is often undetected until there is an infestation. These cockroaches have an appetite for sweet and floury food and even non-organic items such as toothpaste and books. This is another one of those cockroaches that fly tough they are not strong fliers.

There are in fact about 4,000 species of cockroach, and the 3 that I’ve mentioned are the most popular household pests that you might want to exterminate as they are filthy and carry diseases.

House centipedes are probably the most effective control agent of cockroaches but some might not want centipedes in their house either.

Well, then you should consider alternatives like aerosol or pesticides or perhaps you can also do it manually by squashing each one that dares to appear in front of you. Whatever it is, cockroaches are not creatures that you would want as pets.

If you are having problems with cock roaches and you can’t seem to get rid of them on your own, then you need a professional pest control company.
